Susan Kaprov: Self-Portraits 1975-1990

Begun in the 1970’s and continuing to the present day, these experimental black and white and color photomontages were created utilizing the unique properties of random multiple imaging inherent in ordinary copy machines such as Xerox, Canon, Minolta, Haloid, and others. They range from highly personal self-portraits to pure abstraction.

Sixteen of these works are in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Chasing Paper

Folded, loose, and crinkled papers of all varieties, colors, and configurations float, collide, fly, and “dance" freely in tandem with urban breezes - yet go largely unnoticed by our fast-paced city dwellers. Now they’re ready for their close-ups!

“If the artists of the Renaissance had access to modern technology, this is what their work would look like,” said a curator of contemporary art. These hyper-detailed images carefully merge digitally scanned live flowers and plants with artificial ones, blurring the distinction between the real and the artificial.
